Pakistani Documents Translation UK Visa: 2026 Complete Guide
Pakistan has one of the UK's largest diaspora communities. UKVI sees more Pakistani civil documents than those of almost any other country. There are NADRA certificates, nikah nama, court orders and regional language papers. Knowing exactly what to translate — and how — can save you weeks. NADRA Documents — The Core of Pakistani Civil Records
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) issues most official Pakistani civil documents. They are part bilingual, in Urdu and English. Even so, UKVI still needs a UK-certified translation of every Urdu part, including stamps, seals and security features.

Nikah Nama Specifics
The nikah nama is the document Pakistani applicants send most often for Spouse visas. All 25 sections must be translated in full. That includes the clauses on mehr (dower), the right to divorce, and the witness signatures. We also suggest adding the MRC, the computerised marriage certificate from NADRA, as supporting evidence.
Legalisation: Apostille Since March 2023
The Hague Apostille Convention came into force for Pakistan on 9 March 2023. One apostille now replaces the old two-step MoFA plus UK High Commission chain:
- Apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) — issued at the Islamabad or regional office
- No UK High Commission step — you no longer need counter-attestation for an apostilled document
- Translate everything — including the apostille and all stamps into English
Older Documents and Older Guidance
Much of the advice online still describes the old MoFA plus UK High Commission chain, because it was written before March 2023. If your document was already attested that way, that attestation still counts. You do not need to do it again. The translation rules are the same either way.
Regional Language Considerations
Most NADRA documents are in Urdu and English. But some older or rural documents are in regional languages. Use a translator qualified in that language. Do not rely on a general Urdu translator if the original is in Pashto or Sindhi.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to translate the English parts of NADRA documents?
No. But the translation must make clear that the document is in two languages. The translator usually translates the Urdu sections and notes where English already appears.
Is a Nadra MRC enough without the original nikah nama?
UKVI usually wants both. The nikah nama is the marriage contract itself. The MRC is the computerised record. For a Spouse visa, it is best to send both.
How do I attest for NOC / Good Conduct from Pakistan?
The District Police Office issues the Police Character Certificate. It needs a MoFA apostille, plus a certified translation of every stamp. The old UK High Commission counter-attestation step is no longer required.
What about documents from Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) or Gilgit-Baltistan?
AJK and GB issue their own civil documents, and UKVI treats them the same way. Just make sure the translation names the issuing authority clearly.
