German official bodies do not accept an ordinary translation. A registry office (Standesamt), immigration office (Ausländerbehörde), university or court will ask for a beglaubigte Übersetzung — a translation produced by a translator sworn in by a German regional court (a beeidigter, vereidigter or ermächtigter Übersetzer), who confirms its accuracy and completeness with their own stamp and signature. We produce exactly that, through sworn translators on our roster, for £48 per page all inclusive. Personal names are kept exactly as they appear in your passport or source document, and the names of institutions that have no German equivalent are given in the original with a German explanation where it helps the reader.

FAQ

Questions about this service

What is a beglaubigte Übersetzung?

It is a translation certified by a translator who has been sworn in by a German regional court (Landgericht). The translator attaches a certification clause (Beglaubigungsvermerk) confirming the translation is accurate and complete, together with their personal stamp and signature. German authorities generally require this rather than an ordinary translation.

How much does a German sworn translation cost?

A flat £48 per page, all inclusive. That covers the translation, the sworn translator’s certification, digital signing and email delivery. Nothing is added at checkout.

How long does it take?

Up to two working days. Sworn translations involve a second pair of hands — the translator reviews and signs the document — so they are not available on our 24-hour or 8-hour turnarounds.

Will a German authority accept a translation certified in the UK?

German bodies ask for a translation certified by a sworn translator. Our sworn translators provide that certification, which is what the authority is checking for. Requirements can vary between federal states and individual offices, so if a specific office has given you written instructions, send them to us with your order and we will follow them.

Can you translate from a third language into German?

Yes. The source document does not have to be in English — tell us the language when you upload and we will confirm before you pay.

Do I also need an apostille?

Sometimes. An apostille authenticates the original document, not the translation, and whether you need one depends on the authority and the document. If you do, obtain the apostille first and upload the apostilled document so the translation covers it too.
