Pharmacist GPhC Registration Translation Guide: 2026 Complete Overseas Applicant Resource

Translate your pharmacy degree, registration certificate and Good Standing letter for GPhC registration. You also need them for the Overseas Pharmacists' Assessment Programme (OSPAP), the UK's route for pharmacists who qualified abroad.

If you qualified abroad, becoming a registered pharmacist in Great Britain takes three steps: (1) complete OSPAP (Overseas Pharmacists' Assessment Programme), (2) complete 52 weeks of foundation (pre-registration) training, and (3) pass the GPhC registration assessment. Every step needs certified English translations of your academic and professional documents. This guide shows exactly what GPhC expects.

Who This Guide Is For

Non-EEA Pharmacists

If you studied pharmacy outside the EEA, you must complete OSPAP before GPhC registration. OSPAP is a one-year postgraduate diploma at an accredited UK university.

EEA Pharmacists

Since Brexit, EEA pharmacists no longer get automatic recognition. They follow the same OSPAP route, though some recognition pathways differ.

Pharmacy Technicians

Technicians have their own GPhC register with different translation rules. Ask GPhC directly, though many of the documents are the same as for pharmacists.

Northern Ireland Applicants

In Northern Ireland you register with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI), not GPhC. The process is different.

The Syllabus Translation Challenge

OSPAP course providers (Aston, Sunderland, Kingston, Robert Gordon University and others) check how your original pharmacy education compares with the UK degree. So you must send detailed course content, not just the degree certificate.

Common Applicant Mistake

Many applicants translate only the degree certificate and transcript. They are then rejected for "insufficient evidence of curriculum content." Universities need the full module content in English to compare it with the MPharm standard. Budget for 15โ€“40 pages of translation, depending on how detailed your original syllabus is.

GPhC Certificate of Good Standing Requirements

You must have a Certificate of Good Standing (CGS) for GPhC registration. It confirms that your home regulator has no concerns about you. GPhC has clear rules:

  • Must be issued within the last 3 months
  • Must come directly from the regulator (either to you or sent to GPhC)
  • Must state no restrictions, suspensions, or pending investigations
  • Must be accompanied by a certified English translation if not in English

Common Source Countries and Regulatory Bodies

Your translation should name the issuing regulator correctly:

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India โ€” Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), State Pharmacy Councils, B.Pharm / M.Pharm / Pharm.D certificates
๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ Pakistan โ€” Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, Provincial Pharmacy Councils
๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Nigeria โ€” Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), B.Pharm from NUC-accredited institutions
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ Egypt โ€” Egyptian Pharmacists Syndicate, Ministry of Health Supreme Council of Universities
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Iran โ€” Iranian Pharmacists Association, Doctor of Pharmacy from Ministry of Health
๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Saudi Arabia โ€” Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spain โ€” Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmacรฉuticos
๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany โ€” Bundesapothekerkammer, Landesapothekerkammer

GPhC Translation Standards

GPhC accepts certified translations that meet the points below. The standards are close to UKVI's, with a few extra details for the profession:

  1. Translator's certification statement โ€” confirming accuracy and completeness
  2. Translator's credentials โ€” professional membership (ITI, CIoL) preferred but not required
  3. Full contact details โ€” so GPhC can verify the translator if necessary
  4. Stamp / signature on every page โ€” including multi-page transcripts and syllabus documents
  5. Original document presented alongside โ€” as a bound or attached copy

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to translate my pharmacy degree before applying to OSPAP or after?

Before. OSPAP applications need translated academic evidence when you apply. Some universities accept a draft translation for the first check. But you need certified translations before they confirm the offer.

Can I use the same translation for GPhC registration and the Skilled Worker visa?

Yes. GPhC accepts translations that meet UKVI standards, and GPhC-ready translations also work for UKVI. You can send the same PDF to both.

My university won't release my syllabus in English. What are my options?

This is very common. Ask for the full module handbook in your own language and have it translated. Some universities already keep English versions for exchange students. Ask the registrar or international office before you pay for a full translation.

Does my Certificate of Good Standing expire?

Yes. GPhC needs it to be issued within the last 3 months. If your application takes a long time, you may need a new CGS and a new translation. We keep your original translator template, so repeat translations are faster.

Can ECFMG or WHO-recognised verification be used instead of translation?

No. ECFMG is only for doctors (the GMC route). For pharmacists, GPhC requires certified English translations. No central verification service can be used instead.
