What to Know About Nigeria Documents
- English is Nigeria’s official language, so many civil records are issued in English and may not require translation — but documents in Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo, and older records, do.
- Where a formal birth certificate is unavailable, applicants often rely on a sworn Affidavit of Age Declaration or an Attestation of Birth; these are accepted supporting documents and we translate or certify them in full.
- Marriages may be statutory (registry, under the Marriage Act) or customary/Islamic, and the paperwork differs accordingly.
- Affidavits and declarations are sworn before a Commissioner for Oaths at a State High Court — the court endorsements are part of the translated document.

FAQ
Questions about Nigerian documents
My Nigerian documents are already in English — do I need anything?
Documents issued in English generally do not need translating. If you need a certified true copy for your bundle, or if a document contains text in Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo, we can help — just send it over for a free check.
Can you handle an Affidavit of Age Declaration?
Yes. Where no NPC birth certificate exists, a sworn affidavit is commonly used, and we certify or translate it including the court endorsements.
Do you translate customary marriage certificates?
