Certified Translations Accepted by the Home Office (UKVI)
UK Visas & Immigration (part of the Home Office) requires that any document not in English or Welsh is submitted with a full certified translation. Under the immigration rules, the translation must be a complete rendering of the original and carry a certification from the translator. Our certified translations are prepared to meet these published requirements so your application is not delayed by rejected paperwork.
Requirements
What Home Office Requires of a Certified Translation
- Each translation carries a signed statement confirming the translation is a true and accurate rendering of the original, the date, and the translator's full name and contact details.
- The certification confirms the document is a true and accurate translation of the original document.
- The translation is complete — every stamp, seal, signature and annotation on the source is translated or noted, not summarised.
- The original (or a certified copy of it) is submitted together with the translation; the translation is never sent on its own.
- Dates, names and places are rendered clearly, with a translator note where a transliteration differs from the passport spelling.

FAQ
Home Office translation questions
Does the Home Office accept certified translations?
Yes. The immigration rules require any non-English document to be accompanied by a full certified English translation. The translation must confirm it is accurate, be dated, and show the translator’s name and contact details. Our translations are prepared to meet these requirements.
Does the translation need to be from a sworn or government translator?
No. Unlike some countries, the UK does not operate a system of sworn translators for immigration purposes. The Home Office accepts translations from professional translators or translation companies, provided the certification wording and translator details are present.
Do I submit the original document as well as the translation?
Yes. UKVI expects the source document (or a certified copy) to be submitted alongside the certified translation. A translation submitted on its own can lead to the application being delayed or refused.
