Certified Translations for UK Courts & Tribunals

Documents put before UK courts and tribunals, including the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), must be in English. Where evidence is in another language, the court requires a certified English translation of the document as part of the bundle. Our certified translations reproduce the source in full, with the translator’s certification, so the document can be relied on as evidence.

Requirements

What UK Courts Requires of a Certified Translation

  • The translation carries a signed statement confirming the translation is a true and accurate rendering of the original, the date, and the translator's full name and contact details.
  • It is a complete and faithful translation of the evidence, including handwriting, stamps and marginal notes.
  • The original-language document is included in the bundle alongside the translation.
  • The translator is professional and independent of the parties to the case.
  • Pagination and layout allow the court to cross-reference the translation with the original exhibit.

FAQ

UK Courts translation questions

Do UK courts accept certified translations of foreign evidence?

Yes. Evidence that is not in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation, with the original document included in the bundle. The translation must be complete and carry the translator’s certification.

Does the translation need to be sworn or notarised for court?

For most purposes a certified translation with the translator’s signed statement is accepted. Some proceedings may direct that a translation is notarised or that the translator provides a witness statement — follow any specific direction from the court.

How should the translation be presented in a bundle?

We lay out the translation to mirror the original exhibit so the court can cross-reference each page. The original-language document is kept with the translation in the bundle.
